WHEATON, ILLINOIS – People do amazing things every day to support DuPage PADS and the mission to end homelessness in DuPage County. But once in a while someone will take an extra step – or in this case, thousands of steps to help the homeless. In the past three years, Mike DeMeritt has raised more than $30,000 in support of DuPage PADS’ Annual Run and Walk Event by collecting one dollar from supporters for every mile he runs.

On June 2, for 27 hours and 19 minutes, Mike DeMeritt gave his all and ran 100 consecutive miles to raise funds for DuPage PADS. He was faced with physical and mental hardships but pushed on to complete mile 100. “This experience brings everything else into a sharper focus and makes me realize how much I have to be thankful for and how important it is to lend a hand, or a couple of feet, for others in need. I am once again, this year, deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of support from everyone,” said Mike DeMeritt.

Run-for-Home-LogoDuPage PADS is once again preparing for the 8th Annual Run for Home (10K & 5K Run and 5K Walk) on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 8 a.m., beginning at 703 W. Liberty in Wheaton. The CARA certified course appeals to serious runners, walkers, casual joggers and families alike.

“This event is more important than ever,” said Carol Simler, Executive Director of DuPage PADS.

“We have seen a 72% increase in the number of children we serve over the last three years and we count on events like these and generous individuals and organizations to help us as we End Homelessness One Step at a Time!”

Individual runners, families, groups of friends, companies, clubs and congregations are encouraged to be a part of the FUNdraiser! Rain or shine, all are invited to stay for music, refreshments and prizes after the race.
