DuPage Pads 10th Annual Run 4 Home –  A Record-Breaking Finish!

On Saturday, September 6th DuPage Pads held their 10th Annual Run 4 Home 5K & 10K Run, 5K Walk in Wheaton.   DuPage Pads welcomed the largest participation in its ten year history and raised a record amount of funds to help the organization’s goal to end homelessness in DuPage County.

This year’s race included 35 sponsors, 897 participants and more than 300 volunteers. Top sponsors included Continental Motors of Naperville, Republic Bank, and Mike Lifts 100 Tons; a new fundraiser where Mike DeMeritt collected donations to lift 100 tons in less than eight hours.

The air on race day was cool and still as the participants began showing up for registration. The excitement began to build as the runners and volunteers sipped their steaming Starbucks coffee and helped themselves to a delicious spread of food provided by Whole Foods Market Wheaton.  As the sun climbed higher into the sky, the runners stretched while the DJ played upbeat music.

A horn sounded and the runners took off from the starting line, racing forward to be crowned “King of the Hill,” an honor given to the first male and female runners to reach the top of a long hill stationed a half mile into the race. After the final participants made their way through the finish gate, everyone gathered together to acknowledge the top performers in fundraising, racing and participation.

The real winners of the race are the families and individuals who were homeless and will now obtain housing, support services and employment which leads to improved health and economic sustainability as a result of funds raised from the event.  The Run 4 Home helps empower DuPage Pads program participants in realizing their dream of having a place to call “home”.

We would like to thank our dedicated walkers, runners, sponsors and volunteers for taking a step to end homelessness in DuPage County.
