WHEATON, ILLINOIS – People do amazing things every day to support DuPage and their mission to end homelessness in DuPage County. But once in a while someone will take an extra step—or in this case, many extra steps to help the homeless. In the past two years, Mike DeMeritt has raised more than $20,000 in support of DuPage PADS Run/Walk by collecting a dollar from supporters for every mile he runs.

“I am very grateful to those that helped me achieve this goal of bringing more than $20,000 to benefit DuPage PADS on their 25th anniversary of helping to end homelessness in DuPage County! These experiences bring everything else into sharper focus and make me realize how much I have to be thankful for and how important it is to lend a hand or a couple of feet for others in need. I am once again, this year, deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of support from everyone” said Mike DeMeritt.

As part of their 25th anniversary celebration, DuPage PADS is having their 7th Annual Run/Walk on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 8 a.m., beginning at 703 W. Liberty in Wheaton. This 5K CARA approved course appeals to serious runners, casual joggers and families alike.

“This event is more important than ever,” said Carol Simler, Executive Director of DuPage PADS. “We are working hard to raise more funds due to the 52% reduction in state funding this year. With a 65% increase in the number of children we have served over the last two years, we are counting on generous individuals and organizations to TAKE A STEP TO END HOMELESSNESS!”

Individual runners, families, groups of friends, companies, clubs and congregations are invited to be part of the FUNdraiser! Rain or shine, all are invited to stay for music, refreshments and prizes after the race.

To participate, volunteer or sponsor this year’s Run/Walk, visit the web site at www.padsrun.org or call 630.682.3846 for more information.
