WHEATON, ILLINOIS – For the past five years, Mike DeMeritt has hosted successful fundraisers in support of DuPagePads. By running a one hundred mile race for four years, Mike raised more than $40,000 to benefit DuPagePads Annual Run/Walk event held in September. On August 30, 2014, Mike began a new fundraiser, Mike Lifts 100 Tons, to support DuPagePads. For 8 hours Mike lifted weights to reach a cumulative total of 100 tons at CrossFit Carol Stream. He has been preparing to do that again this year on September 12, 8:00am at CrossFit Carol Stream. While progressing toward his goal, Mike noticed he was beginning to fatigue faster than usual.

On a doctor visit, he was notified that he had a problem with his heart causing the symptoms he had been having. There was a moment of doubt whether Mike would continue the event, but with an expert medical team and a quick recovery, he is dedicated and determined to move forward. This year we proudly announce that with the help of friends and coaches from CrossFit Carol Stream, Mike and Friends will Lift 100 Tons in support of DuPagePads mission to end homelessness!

“Mike’s continued support of our mission to end homelessness is truly inspirational. We are fortunate to have these strong and strong-willed athletes eager to be advocates for DuPagePads. This helps us in our work assisting families and individuals to move to a place they can call home” said Carol Simler, DuPagePads’ President & CEO.

Mike DeMeritt has already raised more than $4,000 in pledges this year and hopes to raise over $10,000 by Saturday, September 19, in time for DuPagePads 11th Annual Run 4 Home, 10K and 5K Run and 5K Walk!  Mike will once again join fellow supporters of DuPagePads as they end homelessness one step at a time.  Proceeds from the event will help fund the agency’s solution to end homelessness: housing coupled with support services and employment.  For more information on Mike and Friends Lift 100 Tons and the DuPagePads 11th Annual Run 4 Home, click here.
