Share the Fare – Help Us Keep People Safe This Winter
Winter weather makes daily commutes more challenging for families and individuals who are homeless. With plummeting temperatures and snowfall just around the corner, waiting for transportation in the extreme cold is dangerous, especially for children, and the safety of our program participants is our main concern.
DuPagePads needs your assistance. Even though our Interim (Overnight) Housing sites are selected based on their proximity to the Metra train lines and Pace Bus stops, our program participants still face challenges in arriving to the sites.
Many of our program participants cannot afford the expensive price of public transportation passes for both the train and bus lines.
Also, while some people have their own vehicles, the high cost of gas prohibits them from accessing needed support on a regular basis.
Despite the weather and the cost of public transit, DuPagePads is committed to finding solutions to ensure that transportation barriers do
not prohibit individuals from receiving shelter, food and support services.
There are also other transportation needs for our program participants such as getting to:
- Job interviews and employment
- Hospitals for urgent health concerns
- Doctor’s appointments
- Classes at our Employment and Education Center
Students of Diane Lindsay Piano and Voice raised funds in support of our Share the Fare Campaign for the fourth year in a row. Raising $1,132.85, this years efforts will help provide critical transportation for our program participants who are homeless.
Our supporters’ donations make fulfilling these needs possible. Every contribution goes a long way in providing the transportation that our program participants need.
- $25 can provide a taxi ride
- $60 can provide a 30-day unlimited bus pass
- $100 can provide a monthly train pass
