Repeating His Goal, Volunteer Mike Lifts 100 Tons for DuPagePads

2012-Mike-Runs-100Volunteer and athlete Mike DeMeritt is setting out again Saturday, September 12 (8am – 4pm) at CrossFit Carol Stream, to repeat his goal of lifting 100 Tons to benefit DuPagePads Annual Walk/Run Event (on September 19).

Since 2010, Mike has challenged himself both athletically and philanthropically by running 100 miles for the first 4 years and then lifting 100 tons last year.  His efforts over the years have helped raise funds for DuPagePad’s housing programs and supportive services for families and individuals who are homeless.

For every mile or ton lifted, Mike’s goal was to raise $1.  Multiply $1 by 100 tons/miles and then again by 100 donors.   Over the course of 5 years, Mike has raised $50,000 to benefit DuPagePads!  Mike plans on repeating his goal this year by raising an additional $10,000, a cumulative total of $60,000!

mike-lifting-weightsMike is seeking 100 generous donors to contribute $100 to reach his $10,000 goal.  If you’d like to help Mike, secure online donations can be made here: http://bit.ly/mikeLifts100. Individuals are also encouraged to cheer on Mike by joining him at his event.  Healthy snacks included!

“Mike’s continued support of our mission to end homelessness is truly inspirational.  His physically challenging fundraisers speak to his determination and dedication.  These are the same qualities needed in our work to assist families and individuals move to a place they can call home,” said Carol Simler, DuPagePads President and CEO.

To date, Mike has raised almost $2,500 in pledges and hopes to reach more than his $10,000 goal in time for the DuPagePads 11th Annual Run 4 Home, 10k and 5k Run, 5k Walk on Saturday, September 19.  Mike will join fellow supporters of DuPagePads as they end homelessness one step at a time.  Proceeds from the event will fund the agency’s solution to end homelessness, housing coupled with support services and employment which lead to improved health and economic sustainability.

Update

We knew Mike was an avid supporter of DuPagePads, but this time he has outdone himself. Within the past few months Mike found out he had a problem with his heart, causing quick fatigue and other symptoms. Thankfully he had an expert medical team on his side and is working his way back to 100%.

Dedicated to those who are homeless, Mike has decided to CONTINUE on with Mike Lifts 100 Tons with a little help from his friends. Please help us as we cheer on these strong and strong-willed athletes as they take on this challenge!
