Lifting for a Purpose!
DuPagePads volunteer and homeless advocate, Mike DeMeritt is back after a two-year hiatus from his fundraiser, Mike Lifts 100 Tons! Mike is no stranger to creative and physically challenging fundraisers. From 2010-2013 Mike’s fundraiser was Mike Runs 100, raising nearly $10,000 each year for DuPagePads, by completing a 100-mile race. In 2014, he shifted the focus from running to CrossFit and created Mike Lifts 100 Tons, aiming to lift 100 tons in under 8 hours. Mike enlisted the support of his friends and family to reach his goal in 2015 and 2016.
Individuals are invited to watch Mike Lift 100 Tons on Saturday, September 14th, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at South Naperville Strength, Home of CrossFit Resurgence and encourage Mike as he takes on the challenge. Mike is seeking 100 generous donors to contribute $100, a dollar for every ton he lifts, to reach his $10,000 goal. Secure online donations can be made at http://bit.ly/MikeLifts19
“There was an amazing spirit and sense of community. I was amazed at how much fun we had doing so much work. When you know it’s all to help end homelessness, it’s hard to think of the work as a burden,” says Mike, “No one deserves to be homeless and together with DuPagePads, we can end the cycle of homelessness.”
Mike’s fundraiser has already raised over $2,000 in donations this year and aims to raise over $10,000 by Saturday, September 21st, in time for DuPagePads 15th Annual Run 4 Home, 10K and 5K Run, 5K and 1K Walk. Proceeds from both events will help fund the agency’s housing programs and support services for those who are homeless.
“We are fortunate and grateful to have such strong advocates, like Mike,” says Carol Simler, DuPagePads President & CEO. “At DuPagePads, we know we have the solution to end homelessness; it’s you; it’s me; its housing coupled with support services and employment, which leads to improved health and economic sustainability.”
